　　杯具，原指盛水的器具，后因与“悲剧”一词谐音，成为网络流行语，词性多变，可作形容词，名词等等。不少年轻人在网络上甚至生活中都常常用“杯具”来代替“悲剧”，形容人、事、物。随着网络语言的流传，更出现了“人生是一张茶几，上面摆满了杯具”等“箴言”。


【简介】

　　“杯具”即为“悲剧”一词的谐音，网络用语，词性多变，可作形容词，名词等等。

　　主观地表不如意，不顺心或者失败，或者是委婉地对别人表示某方面的不满，主要靠意会。一般戏谑的味道比较强。最早出处不可考，但无疑是经过百度WOW贴吧而风靡起来。

　　在使用的时候一般可有形容词或名词的双重词义，用作形容词的时候比如“楼主你杯具了”，用作名词的时候比如“坐看杯具的诞生”。

　　“杯具”突然成了热门词。不少年轻人在网络上甚至生活中都常常用“杯具”来代替“悲剧”，形容人、事、物。随着网络语言的流传，更出现了“人生是一张茶几，上面摆满了杯具”等“箴言”。


【流行】



　　“悲剧”的流行，大约是在2008年底到2009年初之间，彼时一幅以“悲剧啊”为易中天教授配音的图片在各大论坛如喜剧般逗引着人们笑的神经。而“杯具”代替“悲剧”成为年轻人常用的调侃词，似乎还是近几个月的事。无论是形容考试失败、恋爱挫折、工作压力大，还是表达日常生活中普通的负面评价，“杯具”全都适用。上一个适用范围如此广泛的词，大概是“囧”。

　　与“囧”相似，“杯具”也带有自嘲的成分。而且，故意写成了错别字的“杯具”，看上去较之传统的“悲剧”似乎不那么深刻，其使用范围也得以扩大。如果说“我是一个悲剧”带着一种真实的绝望感，那么“我是一个杯具”就更多是一种玩笑。


【词性文化】

　　“杯具”本身是名词词性，且在日常生活中常能见到，因此它的使用方式也十分广泛：“今天我穿得很杯具”，是形容词；“××就是个杯具”，是名词；“我杯具了”是动词。只要是负面情绪，都可以通过“杯具”来表达。同时，“杯具”文化也并未仅限于人们发发牢骚发泄情绪。有人仿照张爱玲“人生是一袭华美的袍，上面爬满了虱子”，仿写出“人生是一张茶几，上面摆满了杯具”，进而“茶几”又被用来表示“经常发生‘悲剧’的人、事、物”；也有人以“杯具”为灵感，发明了“洗具（喜剧）”、“餐具（惨剧）”等等衍生词，将“杯具”文化发扬光大。

　　“杯具”文化并未走向阴郁与消极，并成为“80后”、“90后”的新罪状。在哀叹“人参杯具（人生悲剧）”的同时，年轻人们也用“就算生活只是个杯具，我也要做个官窑上品青花瓷杯具”的发言来勉励自己，表达初生牛犊的激情。还有人说：“人生就像刷牙杯，可以看作杯具，也可以看作洗具。”可见如今“杯具”的运用已走出了“悲剧”的窠臼，更具娱乐和乐观精神。

　　从2008年末的那场金融风暴开始，年轻人尤其是都市白领们对未来的预期和对自身生活方式的思考更加趋向务实。在这种情况下，代表一种不太明显的负面情绪的“杯具”会忽然走红，也就并不奇怪了。正如之前流行于80后白领的MSN签名档“无车无房相貌差零存款没有未来”其实反映着对“车房未来”的向往一样，自嘲自己人生“杯具”的人们所期待的，也是“家里有杯具，也一定会有洗具”的可能性。

【“鉴定游戏”全攻略】

〖兽面纹爵〗
赝品的流身外沿有残破缺口，重量比真品轻，赝品表面摸起来感觉比较细腻。

〖玉双龙首璜〗
真品的玉质圆润透明，是不可多得的上品；赝品则略有瑕疵。真品边缘则比较锋利，而赝品的边缘厚而平。

〖玉蝉出牙环〗
真品与赝品两面纹理大小相近，但赝品在用料的质地与颜色上均与真品有所差别。真品因年代久远而有细微裂纹，赝品则没有。

〖青瓷薰炉〗
从下方看，真品的鸟尾的后部有略微的分叉，赝品则没有。真品有14个孔，而赝品有16个孔。真品的底部有裂痕。

〖白釉烛台〗
赝品底部的颜色比真品亮，上盘中心的立柱比真品略长，真品底部花纹颜色偏暗。

回顾我的网游史，算来也有七、八年了……

边锋网络游戏世界：这是我玩的第一款网络游戏，一款棋牌类网游。记得那是初中的时候，为了刷分数，还和同学串通起来玩三扣一。

泡泡堂：一款给了我太多美好记忆的休闲网游，让我找到了人生的另一半。对我来说，在我玩过的所有游戏中，它有着不同寻常的意义。

跑跑卡丁车：和泡泡堂一样，是一款很有技术含量的网游，然而我始终无法突破技术瓶颈。再加上后来新出的车都要RMB来买，使游戏失去了平衡，这让我渐渐地淡忘了它。

完美世界：我玩的第一款MMORPG网游。每当那悠扬的主题曲响起时，总能勾起我一些美好的回忆，让我想起大一时和同学在网吧一起作战的情景。

口袋西游：这是唯一一款我和女友在游戏中结婚的游戏。游戏中，我第一次为了自己心爱的人而努力赚钱，并最终与她结婚。

抢车位：我玩的第一款网页游戏。原来天真地认为大型网游需要投入大量精力，而网页游戏比较休闲，现在想来真是大错特错了。为了升级，每天起早贪黑地停车。再加上腾讯的服务器又破，整天出问题，让人停不了车，还要为这烦恼，真是划不来。

好友买卖：每天安抚折磨10个奴隶，两天后释放掉又再买回，又继续安抚折磨，无止境地重复操作……越想越觉得没有意思。

开心农场：为了自己的果实不被人偷，又为了偷到别人的果实，每天设置闹钟，蹲点守侯，时不时地查看一下农场的变化，弄得一整天不得安宁，想睡午觉，还要等先偷完果实再去睡。累！

QQ炫舞：我玩的最后一款网游，也是玩的时间最短的网游。本来是一款很具有技术含量的游戏，然而游戏里充斥着各种外挂，当我下了外挂测试后，我看到了游戏的极限，最顶级的玩法不过如此。人们比的不再是技术的高低，而是外挂的好坏，这使得游戏丧失了乐趣。

其它还有QQ游戏、游戏茶苑、天黑请闭眼等等，就不再一一道别了。

告别网游，真的感觉是一种解脱，生活轻松了很多，不用再整天想着怎么把游戏玩好，怎么去跟别人竞争。我可以抽出更多的时间来陪伴我的爱人，做一些自己喜欢做的事，学一些自己想学的东西。



这是泡泡堂里我和女友玩的“推心心”。当年保存的截图原件已经丢失了，这是我用技术手段复原的效果图。

简　介：World Builder是由电影制作者Bruce Branit花了2年时间制作的一个9分钟短片，据说拍摄仅用了1天，另外600多天全部投入在后期制作上。他用其毕生所学技艺给我们描绘了一个梦幻般的未来世界。一个男子用沉浸式全息建模工具为他躺在病榻上的女友建造了一个虚拟的世界。结尾的门上的字“Holographic Recovery Unit”意思是“神经外科全息影像治疗室”。





A look inside Bruce Branit's World Builder

How did you come up with the concept for World Builder?
I heard a story once, maybe it was an old Twilight Zone about construction workers who exist just before us, and make sure our world--our reality--gets built in time for us to enjoy it. I've always loved this concept and had a rough concept of this short since back in the days of 405. But it wasn't until I had the idea of the woman, that it became a complete story. I played with different variations and ideas for a while but always thought it was too ambitious to tackle myself. I was working at CafeFX on Sin City when the idea of really finally doing this short film hit me as a reality. I was working, using these tools, 3D and 2D for a major greenscreen feature for someone else, and thought, "why not do this for my own project?"

How long did it take to produce the entire project?
It was planned and pre-produced in about 4 weeks. The actual shoot was one long 16 hour day. we were shooting off single takes at one time and moving on because one day is all I had. The post on it was over the course of 2 years on and off. I think there was one period where the project sat on the shelf for about 4-5 months while I worked on other, paying jobs. When it was finished I sent it around the festival circuit for a year, and then it seemed to have ended its run. I put it online and nothing much happened for 4 months. But recently it has started to get a lot of views and support.

How did you go about creating World Builder?
A stage here in the KC area that is almost always a white cyc, was painted green for a commercial. I was told I could use the stage, but it was due to be repainted for another project in 4 weeks. So I put together the shoot, in that time. I even did an almost complete animatic to make sure I could make use of the one day of shooting I could afford. From that animatic I printed a shot board and grouped like shots to mark progress on set. It was a crazy fast shoot. My brother was the DP and he helped tremendously with calling in some favors from the a-list crew in town. I could not have shot it without them. After shooting, I had a rough off-line edit in a week or so and locked the cut for good about a month after that. From that point on I was working on it when ever I could. Building buildings, working on the over-all null-world look. Modeling, lighting, compositing, sound. But other jobs interrupted me often and I had to set the project aside for months at a time. I had two artists to help with a few buildings and a composer came in to write and perform the score.

What were some of the software that you used in the creation of World Builder?
It was shot on a Varicam in HD and editted using Premiere. All the 3D as well as the pre-vis were done in Lightwave. This project was started about 4 years ago and real-world lighting, and radiosity have become much more affordable time-wise on a project this large. I would love to have the chance to start over with those new tools. It would look twice as real, and probably render twice as fast today. All of the compositing was carried out in Digital Fusion. The greenscreens were a little difficult with the HD footage, but after I had roughly comped all the shots, I took a job for 3 weeks ,again with CafeFX, working on King Kong and learned some really great keying techniques. I went back and re-keyed every shot and got a much nicer key for most of the shots.

Do you have any making of photos or video clips that we can use? Do you have an ftp that we can download the video directly from?
Yes I do. I will get those up in 24- or 48 hours and let you know the link. A 300mb quicktime can be downloaded thorugh the vimeo link. Just look toward the bottom right of the page for that link.

What triggered the desire to include the woman within the story?
I think it came from hearing a story about the Taj Mahal. (Taj Mahal was the working title while we were filming it) It was just a monument to a woman who was sick or dead and that tied in well to what I was already thinking about this man building a world. It provided the emotional "why" to the story.

Why does the world builder hide from her?
That's somewhat up to interpretation. He is essentially creating a dream or a memory for her in hopes of waking her. The photo's at the beginning are supposed to represent a full life these two have experienced, so he draws from these to build a new world every day for her. But seeing him in his digital form (originally he would have looked monotone or like a Star Wars hologram) would likely ruin the emotions he is hoping to stir, and confuse her.

What were you doing in between the 405 and this production?
Mypartner on 405, Jeremy Hunt and I started an FX house called Strange Engine. We did a lot of music video work as well as some television, film and commercial work. in 2003 I deceded to move back to my home in Kansas City, and I freelanced from there and Branit VFX slowly grew out of that.

How long did it take you to complete the modeling/ighting/texturing for world builder?
It took the greater part of the project. I had done a project where I built a visualisation of a small-town main street. The idea had always been to make the world he built, just a slice of life from a nice small town. But after shooting, the performance of the woman, Erin McGrane, was so living and inspired, that I decided I needed to make the world more beautiful and romantic.

Was the look of the movie determined by one person or was there a team that worked on the overall look during the production?
No, it was just me. I had some photos of street in France and Italy and sort of just picked buildings that I liked to fill in the geography of the block.

Some creative artists conceive the story before starting production, but others develop and change their stories in the making of a movie. Which was it for World Builder?
World Builder was pretty much set in stone before it was shot. Other than changing the look of the world, I had the whole movie editied into a pre-vis before we shot. It was the only way to organize a shoot as big as this into a single day. I was able to show the crew the animatic of the whole thing before we started so they had a greater understanding of what all this greenscreen would turn into. I also printed out frames from each shot and used them as a progress board as we shot.

Was the entire movie shot on green screen with no exception?
There is one exception. The only other thing in the film besided the people that is not digital is the blanket and pillow in the bed at the end. She layed on a folding table and we draped a hospital blanket over her. We shot those scenes against the darkened greenscreen and added the room and the bedrails later. It was the last set up of the day and the crew was taking down the lights and packing out as we finished these shots.

What was the workflow like between Lightwave, DIgital Fusion, and Premiere?
I prevised the whole film, so I had a premiere edit based on lightwave stills and rough animatics before we shot. So as I began the actual edit I had obvious places to drop in each shot. From there I got to a full 'green' cut. I took stills from the animatic and did a rough edit with those filling all the greenscreen parts. It was very crude. But it got me to a place I could show a few friends the rough cut and ask questions about whether the story was coming through. I then revised the edit and locked it. from then on I separated the sequence into shots and plates and started tracking and doing final setups and lighting in Lightwave.

The interface that the main character uses seems to be an idealization of what most 3d artists would like to work with. Was the design of the that interface a reflection of what you would like to see in interfaces of the future?
Yes. I kept putting off the interface until the end because I was just waiting on inspiration. The concept I had was never really fully visualized. I wanted him to look like someone who had been using this 'software' for years. When someone who knows nothing about 3D watched one of us work quickly, it can look very much like magic. But it is just knowledge and skill with the tools. I'd hoped to have him surrounded with pallates and able to pullup 'marking menus' in every shot. It was goiing to be much 'denser' but I just never had the time to add that layering of detail.

What attracts you to work on a project? Do you find work via studio or do you freelance?
I've been lucky never to have to do much marketing or sales. You do good work and work should follow. A lot of my work comes from personal relationships I made while working in LA on shows like Star Trek and through the music videos and commercial work.

Was 405 your first attempt at making an independent short?
Yes. We never really looked at it as that though. Just a short to show our friends and show what sort of visual effects and story telling we could do.

You've had an extensive career working in both film and TV. Do you have a preference for one over the other?
Each has its benifits. In television its a little more like the wild west. There is a lot to do and a short time to do it. It can get your blood pumping. There is very little time for errors, but at the smae time not as much for final polish, so you have to be ready. In features, you have a little more time, so that is nice. You get a chance to polish a shot to perfection. But deadlines are getting shorter in that realm too. There is less and less difference between the two every day.

Can you tell us about some of your previous work on tv shows and movies?
I worked on the last 3 StarTrek series. It was a very enjoyable time in my career. Who does not like blowing up spaceships. Digital Muse was a good times, good times.

Did that experience help your work on your own ideas for short films?
It did. A few of the guys in those days had gone through film school. My background was in design. So I did not know a stage line from a jump cut. But working in television you learned from these people and I got sort of film school on the fly. I'd always written stories and my older brother is a filmmaker, so I was always recruited as his grip as a kid on his shoots. SO with the digital tools, filmmaking sort of happened naturally.

Do you have any favorite moments from previous productions? What about World Builder?
The thing I remember most about the World Builder shoot was the weather that day. We had been through a brutal and long winter here in Kansas City. On the Saturday in March that we shot it was suddely about 80 degrees. The crew was all working for me for free, giving up their Saturday. I just remember looking out the soundstage door and seeing butterflies and bunnies hopping round and feeling bad for having everyone here working for my film for free while outside, the first beautiful day of the year was goiing to waste.

405 and World Builder are just a few of your independent movies. Can you tell us about Myopia, Install, and Buzz?
Those were all movies I did for the 48Hour FilmFest in LA. The rules are you can do anytihng and everything to get ready to shoot whatever genre film you want to. But when you first say, "Action," the clock starts. You have 48 hours to turn in the finished cut. I am proud of all of those films for what they are. Those sort of festivals are like working out. Its hard to get going, but when you do you feel good and wonder why you dont do this more often. It's practice as a filmmaker for the big game. But Install was entered into a few other festivals after the fact. It was recognised in the Triggerstreet festival in Toronto. It stood against a lot of other shorts, and it was made in just 48 hours.

Did you study computer graphics at a particular school before going to work in the industry?
I went to the University of Kansas. I took Architectural Engineering, philosophy and painting before ending up in Industrial Design. That is product design, package design, automotive design. I know of quite a few CGi artists who came through the Industrial Design route. Its provides a good mix of artistic abilities and technical expertice.

Are you working on another short film?
Nothing specific right now, just staying busy with CGI work for some television shows like Lost and for pilot season. I have a file of treatments that I go back to and refresh every now and then. Right now I am putting the finishing touches on a treatment that takes place in the World Builder universe. It is a complete story that fills out what we saw in this short into an amaizing feature. I'll be in LA in a few weeks for some meetings and pitches.

Do you have any advice for people who want to make their own short films?
Just to make something that you and others would like to watch. It's entertainment. And it should be entertaining.
