　　杰奎琳·杜普蕾（Jacqueline du Pré），英国女大提琴家，1945年出生，1987年因患多重硬化病去世，琴技超群，然而生命短暂，才活了42岁。据说匈牙利大提琴家史塔克有次乘车，听见广播里正播放大提琴曲，便问旁人是谁演奏的。旁人说是杜普蕾。史塔克说：“像这样演奏，她肯定活不长久。”好厉害的史塔克，真是一语成谶啊！也许只有顶尖的艺术家才能理解自己顶尖同行的水准，史塔克听得出，杜.蕾是用生命在演奏，为了琴艺的完美，可以不惜一切。杜.普蕾一直是许多古典音乐乐迷心中的一个叹息。
她是上帝派来安抚人类不安灵魂的天使，她是集上帝的恩宠和撒旦的苦难于一身的绝无仅有的被神选中的人。正因为有了她，伦敦在音乐世界的地图上才有了大提琴的形状。她，有个很好听的拉丁文名字——杰奎琳·杜普蕾。

　　葬礼那天，喜爱她的人们用鲜花铺满了十几公里的路为她送行。三个月后，在纽约卡内基音乐厅为她举行的专场纪念音乐会上，祖宾·梅塔大师指挥到一半就泪如雨下，演出无法继续，整个音乐厅沉浸在深深的悲伤气氛中。大师甚至宣布，为纪念杜普蕾，他以后不再指挥埃尔加：“不堪回首的第一主题又在我耳边响起，那是杜普蕾拉给自己的宿命之歌。
