1853年9月30日，年仅20岁的勃拉姆斯在他好友的推荐下，扣响了舒曼的家门。舒曼接待了他，并要他在钢琴上演奏一曲，勃拉姆斯演奏的是自己的C大调钢琴奏鸣曲，舒曼听了开头就觉得不凡，于是就叫克拉拉来听，“克拉拉，你快来，我发现了一个天才。”

就是伊人这嫣然一笑，勃拉姆斯做了一个美丽残酷的梦，一梦43年。

1854年，舒曼投莱茵河自杀被救，在之后的日子里他的神智一直不清醒。有一次，克拉拉给舒曼喂糖浆，舒曼吃进去又吐了出来，吐在了克拉拉的胳膊上，这时候，他没有放弃努力去舔他爱妻胳膊上的那一点残余。克拉拉看着眼泪浸湿了眼眶。他眼前的这个男人，曾经写过《梦幻曲》这样动人的乐曲，可是此时此刻，他的眼神确是呆滞无神的。

一直到两年后舒曼逝世，都是勃拉姆斯在克拉拉的身边，陪伴着她照料舒曼和他们的7个孩子，帮助她从痛苦和绝望中解救出来。克拉拉心如明镜般清楚，勃拉姆斯与其说是为了他的老师舒曼，不如说是为了克拉拉她自己。笨拙的勃拉姆斯对克拉拉说：“只要你想，我将用我的音乐来安慰您”。 克拉拉比勃拉姆斯大14岁，她一直很清楚勃拉姆斯对自己的感情，也许是出于道义，他们两却一直都回避着，在一起的时候只谈音乐。

好多好多年过去了，直到1896年5月，克拉拉在法兰克福去世，这时候的勃拉姆斯匆匆从外地赶回来，可是他却做了相反方向的火车，没有见上克拉拉最后一面。他到时，克拉拉已经下葬。黄昏的墓园，暮气氤氲，这个坚守他内心一生爱情的老人也忍不住老泪纵横，泪一滴滴落下。据说他在墓园里拉了一首小提琴曲，天地苍茫，那是一种怎样的情景，那拉出的是乐曲，更是他内心的倾诉啊~~
