It is pole dancing, which gained prominence in the adult clubs of Canada in the 1980s, and is now being recognized by many as a valid form of dance.
Nowadays, it's more than just a sexy routine danced around a pole. It is a full cardio workout that can easily burn calories.And here in the capital city of Beijing, many people are turning to it as a work-out.
Tomorrow we continue our Fitness for All series. We'll take a look at the extreme sports, which is becoming more and more popular in China.
JONAS: So what do you think of pole dance?
"I don't think pole dance is a good activity. Chinese people are very conservative. It's difficult for us to accept it."
"I myself, like pole dancing very much. I think it's a healthy activity and also popular."
"It can help keep one fit. It's fashionable, and actually pole dancing is normal in western countries, I know some singers also practice pole dance."
Jonas Gilbart, said, "Oh yes, Pole dancing, definitely could get reaction from."
This pole dance studio is located in the eastern part of Beijing. Every morning, the club will be packed with students learning pole dancing.
Different from other dancing studios, the teacher here is a man, named Danis Ferdawvis.
Originally from Khazakstan, Danis used to be a ballet dancer. He began to fall in love with pole dancing after a trip to Las Vegas in the United States. He thought he could meld ballet skills with pole dancing.
Danis Ferdawvis, Pole Dance Teacher, said, "I think there are some ballet elements in pole dance. After coming back from Las Vegas, I began to search pole dance videos on YouTube and learn it. Then, I founded this pole dancing studio."
Pole dancing has been around a lot longer than many of us may think. The origins of the dance are rooted in the age old art of strip tease. This became a forerunner to modern pole dancing, which of course, brings with it much controversy.
But in this setting, the modern form of pole dancing provides a display of acrobatics and strength, combined with sensual, flowing, feminine dance movements to form the new art of pole dancing we now know and recognize.
Danis Ferdawvis, Pole Dance Teacher, said, " In the past, pole dance was considered too sexy, so people easily linked it to sexual activities. But over the last year, more students have been coming here to learn pole dance. Much more people have begun to accept it. The dance has become a way for people to keep fit, especially for girls. Dancing makes them feel more confident."
"If you put your head down, this move can exercise your belly.
"You see the moves I did just now. It exercised almost every part of my body including my waist, belly, arms and my legs."
And it's certainly an interesting way to keep fit. You don't have to risk boredom hitting treadmills in the gym, and you don't need to have any dancing experience either. All you need is a a pole and some hot music to get you moving.
And it's not just for the youth. Huang Yanxiang is a housewife and a 32-year-old mother of two kids. After giving birth to her second child, Huang wanted to lose a few pounds and was looking for an activity that would allow her to get out of the house, and get out of the daily routine of housework. She chose pole dancing, after watching a pole dance show on television.
After falling in love with what she saw, Huang left her family in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region for an extended vacation and came to Beijing, finding Danis' pole dancing club.
Without any previous experience, it's been a challenge for Huang to learn complicated dancing skills on the pole.

She even thought about giving it up, but she has stayed the course and dedicated herself to it.
Huang Yangxiang, said, "I am over 30 years now. Compared to those younger girls, my body is not that flexible anymore and couldn't recover quickly after practice. I admire those younger girls, they can even overcome those difficulties. I think I can do it as well."
Huang will soon complete her dancing courses after learning for nearly two months.
Everything is going smoothly for her, except being separated from her two kids.
Huang Yangxiang, said, "When people asked my kids, 'Where's your mom.' They would answer, 'My mom went to Beijing to learn dance.' I miss them so much!"
"Mama just came back from dancing class. Have you had your dinner yet? "
"I am learning pretty well. But I need more hard-work."
Huang doesn't regret her decision to take a two-month dance crash course in the capital. Living in her friend's home in Beijing, Huang is happy she didn't waste her time here and has gotten her dancing skills to a point she is satisfied with.
Huang says she would like to open her own dancing club after going back to her hometown.
Zhu Jianfeng, said, "Once I went to a night bar, where I saw a boy doing pole dance, I thought his movements were very beautiful. After coming back I began to search pole dance clubs on the internet. Then I came here."
Zhu never thought pole dancing was strictly for females. Since the dance requires a lot of body strength, Zhu believes that pole dancing is much easier for men to do. And most importantly for him, Zhu doesn't need to go to gym to exercise anymore.
Zhu Jianfeng, said, "I think doing workout in the gym is very boring. Here, it is more sporty. Coming here, dancing to the hot music, I feel much more relaxed."
"Pole dance can help one strengthen his will. Those movements on the pole or off the pole are very difficult. To master the movements, you need to put in a lot of hard work. Most importantly, you need to be confident. "
"Well Pole dancing certainly, This is now just dance, forget anything else."
