The binding thread of this guitar-driven album is undoubtedly the honest, heart-felt lyrics which are prominent on every track. Each song is exposing and direct, with Allison’s heart well and truly worn on her guitar strap. For example, 'You + Me + Alcohol' does, well, exactly what it says on the tin. ‘We were so drunk we were practically dead,’ muses Weiss, ever the college student. Oh, did we not mention that she’s also a college student when she’s not being a pretty accomplished recording artist and making the rest of us feel like underachievers? The subject matter is raw and relatable, portraying stories of love and loss, for better or for worse. This, combined with the use of muffled dialogue overlaying the emotionally poignant 'Ghost Stories' and the unedited scratching of chord changes in 'Why Bother?', results in an intimate feeling album, ensuring listener interest from the offset.
With an eccentric mix of mellow, melodic songs such as 'From You To Me' and more punchy, up-tempo tracks like 'Yer Going Down', '...Right All Along' makes for an engaging listen. It’s hard to box Allison into one genre, but if Tegan and Sara went to a folk festival and had a baby with the headline act, and the baby grew up and learned guitar and innovative money-making techniques, that baby would closely resemble Allison Weiss.

Dylanesque is the term often applied to singer and songwriter Tom Ovans. He appears in Europe with as much frequency as he does in Austin, but can be found at venues such as Ruta Maya when he's playing here. His Tombstone Boys, Graveyard Girls was released in 2003. He also released the CD 15 Unreleased in 2003.
Ovans compares his work in Europe to the jazz musician migration to Europe in the 1950s. The art of the music and the artist making it are received and accepted in a different way than in the US. Tom Ovans is unique to the Austin scene, with his a long discography, his history of many tours in Europe (where they consider him a country artist) and a Tom Waits/Bob Dylan style that is filled with emotion. The Weekly Wire stated, " But where Dylan traffics in personal mythology and gnomic mysticism, Ovans paints urban desolation with lines as spare and insinuating as century-old blues couplets." His 1999 release, The Beat Trade, is a European only release on a British label. It is available in the U.S. only through Local Flavor. He's been described as a street rocker who can play the blues with soulful intensity. His unreal city is characterized by a rocking version of urban soul.
"As a writer, he says, the main concern was to be true to what the songs were telling him. 'The biggest crime in songwriting is selling out the song--tacking on some kind of clever ending or cute play on words,' he observes. It happens all the time in Nashville, but back in the tough clubs Ovans frequented in Greenwich Village and Cambridge in the 1970s, 'if you did that to a song, somebody'd throw a beer mug at you.'" Ovans is a brilliant songwriter. He handles guitar, percussions and harmonica as well.

'Landing' marks Githead's third album (and fourth release) since their inception in 2004. In a short career that has boasted more five-star reviews than most bands have had hot dinners, 'Landing' is, unquestionably, Githead's most accomplished recording to date.
For the uninitiated, Githead are Colin Newman (Wire), Malka Spigel and Max Franken (Minimal Compact) and Robin Rimbaud (aka Scanner). However, who they are is far less important than what they are. And what they are is a band, rather than a collaboration between four individuals. Githead has developed incrementally and organically : from the Krautrock-infused roots of 2004's debut EP 'Headgit', through an expansion in style and mood on first album 'Profile' the following year, to the self-descriptive 'Art Pop' in 2007, which was critically hailed as the band's zenith. Improbably, 'Landing' goes one better.
All the familiar components of Githead's distinctive idiom remain in place - Newman and Rimbaud's minimalist guitar patterns, their supremely catchy melodic sense, Spigel's propulsive bass rumble, Franken's solid, steady drive - but 'Landing' broadens the band's vocabulary considerably. Adding depth, texture and shading, this album’ ten tracks are somehow simultaneously harder, edgier, more expansive, more organic, and more hypnotic. Crucially, though, while Githead might now be speaking a more sophisticated, nuanced language, they never once lose touch with their essential pop sensibility.
It's this unique balance of convention and subtle experimentation that's always distinguished Githead from so many others attempting to plough the same adventurous avant-pop furrow

Absent Elk are a British pop rock band who formed in 2008. They have released two singles to date, and released their first album in October 2009. Their cover version of Girls Aloud's The Loving Kind posted on Youtube became a small phenomenon, and led to them being invited to support Girls Aloud on the first leg of their Out of Control Tour in spring 2009. Their next Youtube cover, a rendition of Lady Ga Ga's Poker Face, was uploaded shortly before the announcement of a UK tour in June. The band's name comes from their Norwegian influence, as the band's lead vocalist, Kjetil Morland, is from Norway.
